The number of spam comments I get on my blog has been increasing slowly over the last six months, and then suddenly this month I've gotten more than I have... pretty much ever. It's not that big a deal right now, but if the increase continues according to this pattern, I may soon drown in spam (and oh my goodness, what a gross way to go).
June - 3
July - 0
August - 2
September - 5
October - 4
November - 5
December - 8
January - 16 (with six days left in the month)
(Also, I think—perhaps with the redesign that happened a little while ago—Blogger hasn't kept track of anything before June. This is not to say that June was the first time I ever got them, though; in fact you may remember a veritable plague of spam in the first half of 2010, which was successfully conquered when I implemented the comment moderation feature. But apparently the spam has not stayed conquered. Le sigh.)
Just so you don't get drowned in spam I thought I would say "hi". I am trying not to look at fb anymore. Too much drama. Too much time. Can't wait to live closer so fb isn't the only means of friendship
ReplyDeleteYes! I am really excited for that. Almost all my friendships ARE dependent on Facebook right now and it gets so tiring. And thank you for the non-spam comment.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, you may be interested to know that I have gotten four more spam comments TODAY—and they were all on this post. It's like they're attracted to the word "spam"! Is such a thing possible, do you suppose? That's kind of a terrifying thought.
I seriously get between 50-80 spam comments everyday. It kind of drives me crazy.
ReplyDeleteAnd five more since my last comment... Debra, at this rate I'm afraid I will be joining you soon! Goodness. Do you have the super annoying "please prove you're not a robot" authentication form on your blog? If the spam keeps increasing, and if that actually helps prevent it, I might have to try it again. :/
