Dr. Pepper's manly new soda--10 whole calories, and not for women
Oh, men. Are they really so pathetic? I guess so, if they won't drink diet sodas because they're "not manly." This is why the feminist movement is important for both genders; women aren't the only ones who have stupid expectations placed on them, and who feel pressure to conform.
Miss Representation
My cousin Sara posted this fantastic video on Facebook today:
.
A shorter video that comes from the Women's Media Center website (if you're seeing it cut in half, go to the website to watch it there):
This is why I laugh/cry when people say they don't believe in feminism. Here's a hint: If you don't like what these videos tells you--if you think women shouldn't be discriminated against because they're women--then you're a feminist. That's all feminism is. (Just for the record.)
And if you're curious about the Wall Street protests, this article is the simplest explanation I've seen; it explores really important issues that are related to my recent post about Nickel and Dimed. Then there's this article, which is linked at the end of the Wall Street one. I would like to literally beg you to read them both.
The most ironic thing I've ever heard, is this:
ReplyDeleteI don't consider myself a feminist but < insert feminist point here >.
It's something that I heard so much in my undergrad. It's almost like some view it as a bad word.
Also, you will love this youtube channel, (I spent a few hours the other day watching this girl's reviews of movies and commercials):

Ha ha! Yes, I get so sick of people thinking feminism is a bad word.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you for sharing those articles on Occupy Wall Street.
People DO see it as a bad word! That's the other thing you hear:
ReplyDeleteFeminism was great in the 60's and 70's, and it did some important things, but now it's just a bunch of radicals who hate men.
There are different degrees of feminism, and some are more radical than others, but FEMINISM itself is not about hating men or wanting revenge or any of that. You can't just write off the entire movement because there are some people you don't agree with--they're just one aspect of it. The movement itself is still very much relevant and important.
I made this comment recently, I don't remember where, probably fMh.
I tried to watch the videos but the right side of the screen on the bottom video was cut off and I could not read the signs, is this available elsewhere in another format?
ReplyDeleteOops, Dumb question, I missed the comment in between the videos! sorry:)
